Materials:
1: Glue strips of black construction paper onto a piece of cardstock paper. These will be your race track.
2: Use a white crayon to draw dashes on the road. Glue small pictures (using speech sound targets) as obstacles in the road.
3: Use a small toy car to drive around your race track, and talk about avoiding the obstacles.
Narrative Language: Who is the story about? How does he feel about cars? What does he get to do? How does his family help him? Retell/act out the story!
Extended Vocabulary:
--We played with toy cars and raced them down ramps. Which car was first/second/last? Which car went the farthest?
--We sorted cars by size and color
--We played red light/green light with our toy cars, or Stop/Go for younger kids
Prepositions: We practiced through, around, behind, under, over as we helped our cars drive around obstacles.
Literacy:
We found all the rhyming words and tried to find other words that rhymed.
We compared fast/faster/fastest and slow/slower/slowest
We explored magic e in the word 'race'. ( long a, and soft c sound) We found other words with this pattern and made sentences from them (ace, trace, face, place, pace, lace, space)
Home Connection Ideas:
This boy had fun with his dad and grandpa. What do you like to do with your family?
Draw a picture of a fun memory with your family.
Practice counting cars, or talking about cars as you drive.
How do cars work? What makes them go fast or stop?
