Kid Reviews:
"I like the sheep's hat!"
"I like all the wishes they make."
Speech Sounds to practice:
--'sh': SHeep, wiSHing, wiSHes, wiSH
--/s/ and /s/ blends: Star, first, fast, aSLeep
--/l/ blends: Light, gLow, Little, pLease, Left, fLy, vioLin, Let's, cLose
Materials: Glue, cotton balls, large picture of a sheep
1: Glue cotton balls on the sheep, making a fluffy 'wool' coat.
Target speech and language goals throughout! For example, to target /sh/: "sheep's head, sheep's back, sheep's tail" etc
Narrative Language: Who is the story about? What happens to the sheep? Retell the story using stuffed animals!
Extended Vocabulary:
--Wishing and dreaming: what do we wish for?
--Matching pictures of sheep with what the wish for
--where do sheep live? what do we make with wool?
--sorting shapes; what else is star shaped?
Pronoun Practice: What did HE wish? What does SHE have?
-ing verbs: We talked about what the sheep are doing: wearing, standing, flying, listening, playing, kicking, yawning, sleeping, dreaming
Literacy:
We explored the letters: <sh>. Counting sounds, and manipulating them to change the words: fish, wish, dish, ship, shop
Older kids: Practiced reading and writing double <ee> patterns, put suffixes on 'wish' to make more words
Home Connection Ideas:
What is something you dream about or hope for? Draw a picture together!
Practice counting shapes, take one away, then count again
Pretend you are the sheep in the story and do the action with each one
