Speech, Language,
& Literacy
As a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist,
I come to your home for evaluations and therapy!
Typical therapy sessions begin with reading a book together that has been carefully chosen to target your child's goals. Fun games and activities related to the story provide opportunities for your child to continue practicing his speech, language, or reading skills.
These activities easily carry over to home practice with family, which is encouraged between sessions.
An adult must be present in your home during the therapy session, and is encouraged to participate.
Specialized Services
Your child will be assessed to find out what skills she has and which skills are still developing. A plan with measurable goals will be shared with your family.
Speech
Your child is working on using the correct sounds in order to be more intelligible. For example, if he is learning /k/ sounds, he might be practicing words that start or end with /k/, like pronouncing 'car' instead of 'tar'. He practices the sound, then in words, then in sentences and conversation.
Language
Your child is working on using correct words together for appropriate meaning. This might include using longer sentences, building vocabulary, using correct grammar, sequencing narratives, etc. Language goals might focus on spoken and/or written language.
Literacy
Your child learns the building blocks of words and sentences through fun games and engaging activities. Skills based on the science of reading will be taught, based on your child's strengths and weaknesses. Learning the to recognize patterns of sounds, letters, and word meanings can help your child improve comprehension, fluency, and build confidence!

Call your insurance to answer these questions:
-Does your plan cover speech/language evaluation and treatment for developmental delays?
-Will they reimburse you for payment you pay to an out-of-network provider?
-Do they require a referral from a doctor?
-Is there a limited number of sessions?
(Many plans do not cover a developmental delay, and only cover speech therapy if there is another medical diagnosis or if you have been in an accident! It is important to find out now what your plan covers so you can make informed decisions. If you need to find an SLP that is in-network, it is better to know right away.)
